FOOD BLOG - Chocolate Marvel Cake with Buttercream

Today my mother in law asked if i can do a birthday cake for a little boy who's having his birthday end of this month, wow ! I think to myself "My 'products' so far must be pretty good uh, else she won't take the risk right.." Hee I of cos readily agree. To be honest, i've never make a whole cake from scratch ever since home economics class in secondary school where i made a sponge cake. After that, i always entrust Betty crocker ready cake mix for any cakes. But times are different now !! I"m a baker !! Cake mix are out of question !! So straight away, found this chocolate marvel cake recipe from Aunty Yochana's blog, went down to NTUC to get the ingredients & there i go ! I split the cake into 2 layers & sandwiched them with the choco ganche which is left over from last baking session. Then make the butter cream (1st time making butter cream too !) & with my limited art sense, i completed the cake ! As its more of a testing session for the taste than the decor this time, i didn't buy any nice strawberries to decorate it. I simply threw on some chopped almonds, piped on swirls of cream & sprinkle with some decorative stuff.

The taste is great actually ! though i don't really like the colour of the buttercream, would prefer something darker, maybe i'll use chocolate ganche to glaze it next time. Plus decorate them with strawberries & ferrero roche. That would be nice !

For now, i'm fully satisfied with my 1st attempt on a chocolate cake.
