Carrie first day at school ! - 1 dec 2009 - Playgroup

Its Carrie first day at school on 1 December 09 ! See how cute she is in her uniform :)

Hubby drove us to school on the first day, guess he wanted to participate even in a small way even though he can't take leave now as its a new job.

I brought her to school, as usual, she's clingy cos its a new environment with unfamiliar people. There's a rabbit and goldfishes which helped her relax a bit. The teacher told me its better to disappear and not let her see you leave (which i find that its rubbish in the end) so when she's in the washroom washing her hands, i ran off (which i totally regretted). And expectedly she cried and cried for me, all the while I'm outside the classroom hiding behind the wall. Her cries of fear reminded me of hospital time when she's taken away from me by the nurses. Really broke my heart, I teared (Yes, I really can't take all these calmly, will get all emotional and cry as my baby cry)

And my little stubborn one didn't give up, she kept crying and getting loudly each time till the teacher asked me to come in again. I ran to her and hug her tightly. Gosh..i feel so bad.

Then for the rest of the morning, i kept her company in school. She's still wary that i might run off again so she clinged on tighter. Only during singing sessions that i see her more relaxed and swaying her body as the music play.

She had her lunch there and after that its bathing time ! I changed her but when she went inside the bathroom where a teacher will bathe them all, she cried again as she wanted me to bathe her. Luckily, after she came out, she stopped crying.

Finally going home ! She looked back at her school and later waved happily to the gor gor , jie jie who are outside the door.

For the first day, its eventful enough, not wanting to overload her, i took her home. Oh, of course to reward my brave little one, i took her for macdonald lunch before heading home. She and her macdonald ketchup. Haha...

She's back to her chirpy self at home again. If you asked her about her day, she would tell you mummy ran away and she couldn't find me (oh gosh, guilty guilty mummy) so something i've learnt about sending kids on their first day to school -- DON'T BE SNEAKY. Don't just disappear, it will only make your kids more insecure. Tell them you will come back for them at a certain time and be ON TIME to pick them up. It will build their trust and confidence that we will come back for them.

Carrie had nightmare that night, she cried "mummy, mummy, bu4 yao4 (which means don't want)" And when i say "don't worry, mummy's here" She slipped back to sleepy land again.

So that sums up Carrie's first day at school.

That night I read up on how to overcome toddler's separation anxiety, i felt more equipped and even took notes and went through the steps in my mind numerous times, all to make 2nd day a better one!
